Jewellery Care
Sterling Silver
We use Australian recycled 925 sterling silver for all of our silversmithed jewellery pieces, this is the highest quality silver available however you will need to give it a bit of tender loving care to keep it looking beautiful for years to come.
Wear: Fun fact! You can avoid tarnish by wearing your jewellery often. The oils in your skin will keep your silver looking shiny.
Shower : Or is not ideal to shower with your jewellery on, but once in a while isn't going to do any lasting damage. Just make sure to dry it after.
Swimming pools - hot tubs : Avoid as the chemicals (Chlorine) will tarnish your jewellery over time. If you forget, that’s okay! Simply clean with warm soapy water and pat dry afterwards.
Makeup, lotion, perfumes : Jewellery should be the last thing you put on when getting ready ! This is to avoid putting any chemicals on your jewellery that will cause tarnishing.
DIY Natural silver cleaning tip:
You will need 2 parts water to 1 part baking soda.
Stir into a paste. Use an old toothbrush to apply in circular motion. Rinse with warm water then pat dry.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil is a high quality plating that use at least 10K (we use 22k gold) a minimum of 2.5 microns thick and layered on a silver base. These are strict standards that must be met in order for jewellery to be called vermeil.
Gold vermeil is a great alternative to solid gold however some special care is required to insure your pieces stay shiny for longer.
Water : Although much stronger than standard gold plated, we recommend to remove your jewellery before showering or swimming in the ocean however doing it every now and then won’t do any lasting damage. Just make sure to pat it try afterwards.
Swimming pools - hot tubs : Avoid as the chemicals will cause the gold to fade off over time. If you forget, that’s okay, simply rinse your pieces with warm soapy water and pat dry.
Makeup, lotion, perfumes : Jewellery should be the last thing you put on when getting ready ! This is to avoid putting any chemicals on your jewellery that will cause tarnishing.
How to clean your gold vermeil pieces?
Mix 1-2 drops of dish soap with warm water, whisk until bubbly and soak your pieces for 3-5 minutes. Use a toothbrush to gently clean your piece. Rinse with clean water then pat dry.
Gold Filled
Gold-filled jewellery is hypoallergenic, which is ideal for those who have sensitive skin. Made of 5% solid gold, the gold is bonded onto a base layer, which is typically sterling silver. Gold-filled jewellery is safe to wear underwater (unless the water is chlorinated) and is easy to care for.
Here are some tips on how to care for your gold-filled jewellery:
-Polish off your jewellery using a soft polishing cloth. This will help maintain its shine.
- Safe in the water but avoid contact with perfumes, detergents, and other skincare products.
- Avoid exercising in your jewellery or going into chlorinated pools.
- Rinse with warm water after swiming in the ocean.
- Clean the same way as gold vermeil (see above).
